Getting Heah from Theyah

By Car:
From Portland you have two choices, the coastal Route 1 or inland via Augusta/Route 3.
  • Route 1 is the scenic route and takes you past Freeport (LL Bean outlet among many others). It can be slow in the summer and Wiscasset is infamous for its seasonal traffic jam caused by a popular lobster shack but has far more points of interest than Route 3.
  • Route 3 meets Route 1 in Belfast. Folks rave about Belfast's Co-op. I've never been. From Belfast, keep heading north on Route 1 to Bucksport. Skip down to Bucksport section below...
From Bangor Airport
  1. From the Bangor airport, turn right onto Union Street.

  2. Take Union St. to 95 South

  3. Take 95 South To 395

  4. Take Exit 4 to ME 15 South.

  5. Continue on 15 through Bucksport.

Car rentals are available from the Bangor Airport.

...So you made it to Bucksport!

  1. Approx 3 miles after Bucksport, look for right turn onto ME-15 North. The turn is not very well marked but is right before a gas station.

  2. 15 takes you all the way into Blue Hill, where you turn right and drive through town to the traffic circle.

  3. Proceed 3/4 around the traffic circle, getting off at 9:00. The grocery store Tradewinds should be on your right and you are now on 175.

  4. Take 175 approx 2 miles and be on lookout for a sharp left turn.
(Turn is by Hairplanes which will be on your right)

  5. 175 takes you all the way into Brooklin.

From Bar Harbor Airport

  1. Google yourself to Blue Hill.

  2. See #2 above.

By Air:

Portland  It is certainly possible to fly to Portland, and JetBlue has a good number of flights, but be aware that it's a solid three hour drive from Portland to Brooklin.

Bangor  Delta runs the only direct flight from New York to Bangor, but if you don't book well in advance the tickets can be crazy expensive.

Bar Harbor Cape Air runs flights from Boston to Bar Harbor and I have transferable coupons for $99. Summertime flights fill up way in advance but off-season there are usually a fair number of options. The main caveat is that the small airplanes are vulnerable to bad weather cancellations, which can royally foul up plans.

By Bus:

Concord Coach to Bangor is your best bet. You can rent a car from there or I will pick you up!

By Train: Amtrak to Boston and then bus to Bangor can take some time but between internet and New England scenery is a relatively smooth and pleasant way to get here.
